James Downie

Founder

James Downie manages the grazing and day-to-day operations of his family’s mixed sheep and cattle enterprise in Tasmania’s Central Highlands. With a deep respect for the land, James has built efficient production systems that prioritise landscape health, animal welfare, and long-term resilience.
He applies regenerative practices such as rotational grazing, responsive stocking rates, and animal education, adjusting operations to suit seasonal conditions. These approaches not only improve productivity but also support soil health and ecosystem function.
James increases carbon sequestration through time-controlled grazing and the establishment of multispecies pastures. By improving soil organic matter, Jamie’s work enhances water retention, biodiversity, and overall landscape performance.
Through thoughtful, nature-positive management, Jamie plays a vital role in demonstrating how regenerative agriculture can deliver both environmental and economic outcomes.
