Peter Downie
Founder
Peter is a sixth-generation farmer in Tasmania’s Central Highlands, where his family has worked with nature for over 150 years. A leader in sustainable land management, Peter helped establish Australia’s first carbon project development company in 2007, selling credits to global corporations nationally and internationally. He owns the first commercial forest in Australia to achieve Forest Stewardship Council certification and developed Tasmania’s first private wind farm.
Peter was a board member of the Tasmanian Land Conservancy for 10 years and manages 4,000 acres under conservation covenant. His family runs extensive sheep, cattle, and forestry operations, applying regenerative practices to ensure ecological and production outcomes are maximised.
Through decades of innovation, Peter demonstrates that thriving agriculture and ecological restoration go hand in hand.
